THE PROJECT

Anchor 1

DESCRIPTION

Our project arises after conducting an analysis of needs in the teaching-learning processes in the teaching of STEM subjects (in the school, science, technology and mathematics). In addition, in three of the four partner institutions, we detected a decrease of students interested in carrying out training itineraries that lead them to carry out scientific-technological studies.

Often the sciences and mathematics are seen by our students as boring, mainly because in the classes they have comprehension problems and as a consequence low performance, demotivation ... losing the interest for sciences, technology and mathematics. For this reason we ask ourselves if the students really enjoy what they do in these disciplines / subjects, and this has led us to turn our methodology towards a more contextualized teaching and thus, teaching in the context of a real world, the learning would be meaningful.
Based on this approach, we have designed STEMcooking, a contextualized project in the kitchen, within a framework of a research project of the teaching-learning process in STEM subjects, using mainly project-based learning, integrating kitchen situations in the real world, so that students learn to think in a scientific way about their environment.

Target groups:
Students: students between 15 and 17 years old
Teachers: teachers of science, technology and mathematics; language teachers

OBJETIVES

  1. Improve the knowledge and skills of students in STEM subjects, propose activities and practical research through learning (PBL) project-based, favoring the development of critical and creative thinking and capabilities to become active agents in the construction of their learning. Each STEM project will focus on one of the five thematic areas in which we have organized the project.

  2. Strengthen the professional profile of teachers, improve the processes through which students acquire STEM skills through effective methodologies based on multidisciplinary and innovative approaches such as project-based learning

  3. Optimize the knowledge and skills of teachers in the teaching of STEM disciplines through learning strategies projects, case study, collaborative learning, based...

  4. Enhance ICT skills of students and teachers, and make them part of the normal life in the classroom.

  5. Promote knowledge and understanding of the diversity of European languages and cultures and the value of that diversity among students and teachers.

  6. Improve skills in linguistic communication both the students and the teachers involved. Using the English, the Spanish and French languages as vehicular both for the development of the activities and the products resulting from the project.

  7. Increase the quality and the European dimension of the participating teacher training.

  8. Include the European dimension in the life of the Center, internationalize it and enrich our sense of community through knowledge of new realities and cultures.

  9. Encourage cooperation between the four schools creating a network with the same objectives for work at the transnational level, encourage innovation, participate in joint educational activities and exchange good practices.

  10. Celebrate the 1st International week STEM fair in Gabriel and Galan High School,  Plasencia (Coordinator Centre), this first edition will focus on Science, technology and mathematics in relation to the kitchen.
